Miskovic has spent the last seven months in detention on charges of abusing his official position and tax evasion by his road maintenance companies, which is punishable by up to 10 years in prison. The prosecution suspects he stole 16.95 billion Serbian dinars from the companies and 472 million dinars from the national budget.
Delta Holding is Serbia’s largest privately held company. Miskovic has repeatedly denied the charges.
The Higher Court in Belgrade set the huge bail on July 19. It is 12 times the previous highest-set bail which was for the president of the Serbian Football Association, Zvezdan Terzic on charges of fraud and embezzlement related to the transfer of players.
Miskovic’s attorney announced he should be leaving detention late Tuesday morning after evidence of the payment, Serbian media B92 reported.
Miskovic is forbidden to leave his place of residence and has to report to the police on the first workday of each month. His passport was also temporarily confiscated.
